It’s time for SELF CARE! What is self care? Well it’s how you take care of yourself. This is important for everyday, but we think about it often while pregnant, because we are in turn taking care of the baby. Self care is often times the thing that goes to the way side first. We all get caught up taking care of everyone else, that by the time there is time for yourself, you are too exhausted to do anything. So lets talk about it.
There should be some kind of self care everyday. What can self care look like? Well anything you do just for yourself, like putting on makeup because it makes you feel more confident, taking a bath, writing in a journal, reading a book. Self care can take on many forms, and it is important to take this time for yourself. When you do this, you help reset your mind, that’s why its good to do each day. There are little things you can do for self care, and others you do once a month or once a year. Examples for me are a mani/pedi every so often. I get to feel pampered, but its not every day. Sometimes self care looks like exercise or therapy (which is exercise for your emotions). It looks different for each person, but try to figure out what it is for you, and whether it is a daily, weekly, monthly, or annual thing.
Why is self care so important? Well if you don’t take care of yourself, it makes it much harder to take care of anything else. Self care helps up to re-charge, and refill our cup, so we have something to give. Without it, we can feel drained and like there is nothing left to give.
Pregnancy often brings us to self care, but it’s because we also want to take care of the baby right? Well what happens after you deliver? Often times, self care slips away, but why? Yes you are a new parent to this child, and yes you have more responsibilities, but you still need to take care of yourself, so that you can take care of the baby, your other children, and other responsibilities. Why not continue eating healthier? Why not continue some of your self care. fit it in where you can. Yes things are going to change, but try to make a postpartum plan that includes some kind of self care. It is important for everyone!
