Frequently Asked Questions

At its core, a Doula is trained to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to women   and their families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
  • I provide emotional and physical support to a woman and her family during her labor and delivery.
  • I can also facilitate communication with the birth team to ensure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions regarding your baby’s birth.
  • I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for your comfort.
  • I do not Perform clinical tasks. This includes taking your blood pressure, interpret fetal heart tones, perform vaginal exams, etc. I am there to only provide physical comfort, emotional support, and help communicate your preferences to you birth team/staff.
  • I do not Make decisions for you. I will help you get the information you need to make an informed decision, and will remind you of your birth plan, as well as your preferences, if there is a departure from your initial plan.
  • I do not Speak on your behalf. I will discuss your concerns with you, and give suggestions on how to voice your opinions to your birth team/ staff, and encourage you to do so.
Yes. I earned my certification through A Sacred Journey Doula Training in December of 2015.

  • In September of 2015 I attended a Spinning Babies workshop hosted here in Houston.
  • In February of 2016 I took an Essental Oil for birth workers class through A Sacred Journey Doula Training

NO! I want your partner to be as involved as you each wish. I can share some techniques with you and your partner before labor begins, and help them with suggestions during labor, of ways to support you. I am not there to replace anyone.
Yes! Physical support is not the only thing doulas are good for!
Yes! I can still support you and your family with emotional and informational needs, as well as breastfeeding support if you plan to breastfeed. I will still attend your birth, even if I’m in the waiting room, so that you have whatever support you need.
A midwife is clinically trained, and able to perform clinical tasks such as: vaginal checks, interpret fetal heart tones, make suggestions regarding your medical care, measure blood pressure, etc.

A doula is not clinically trained and does not perform clinical tasks. They are trained in how to provide emotional, physical, and informational support.

In a word, YES. While some midwives have been doulas in the past, when they are in the role of the midwife, their focus is on you and baby. They have many things to do while charting your labor, and in preparations for your little one’s delivery. Since a doula doesn’t perform these tasks, she is with you the whole time, and it gives the midwife the freedom to do what they need to do.

Flurries (add on or separate services):

If you are already a client of mine, you can always add an additional service for $150.

This is about a one-two hour session, please contact me about what Labor Whispering is, and how it can help you. This is not an induction technique, but will help you better prepare for your upcoming labor and birth.
Belly binding is a long held tradition that can help with physical and emotional support. It is a wrap that is tied in a specific way to help support you postpartum. This service includes the warming paste, the bind itself, my help to bind you the first time, and instruction so you can continue to bind yourself for the recommended 40 days, or as long as you feel comfortable.

If you would like me to come back and bind you again, it is  an additional $50.

If the package you purchase does not have the number of pre-natal visits you would like, you can add additional visits.
I offer placenta preparation in the Raw Method or Traditional Chinese Method. I also offer a tincture for an additional $75.  This service is currently only offered for birth clients.
