I truly believe there are no two alike. No two pregnancies, births, babies, or families. There are differences in each just like there are no two snowflakes alike.

My name is Katelin Gabelman.
I am a wife and mother of one (2 in October!).

Welcome to Snowflake Doula Services: No Two Alike. I am a professionally trained individual who provides support to families through pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum experiences. What do you hope this looks like for you and your family? Are you planning to have an Epidural? A Planned Cesarean? A Pain Med free Birth? VBAC? Great! How might I help you achieve this?

Meet Katelin:

Welcome! I’m so glad you are here!

I truly believe there are no two alike. No two pregnancies, births, babies, or families. There are differences in each just like there are no two snowflakes alike.

My name is Katelin Gabelman, I am a wife and mother of one (Baby Gabelman #2 is due in October). We recently moved to the Cleveland TX area, but my service area is the greater Houston area. I’m within an hour of Downtown and can go all the busy birth locations this city has to offer.

I am currently a Certified Birth Doula through A Sacred Journey Doula Training. I started my journey to become a Doula when I started to research for my own birth four years before I was pregnant! I’d learned so much, but was not ready to become a Doula at that point, knowing my own birth experience would influence me in my work. My birth was a planned home birth that turned into a necessary cesarean (you can read my birth story here). This  experience that taught me many important lessons I believe I needed to learn before I earned my certification.

I officially began my certification process in January of 2015 in the Sacred Journey Doula Training Program and earned my certification on December 29th 2015.I have since attended as many continuing education classes as I can, including Gena Kirby’s Rebozo class, Spinning Babies class, classes on placenta encapsulation, Bengkung Belly Binding, Reiki 1, Labor Whispering and more. I also teach a cloth diaper class either privately or to groups (contact me if you’d like to host a class!) I am always learning more, as there is always more to be learned.

I think you should give birth where YOU are comfortable; be that your home, a birth center, or a hospital; as well as with whom you are comfortable being there. This is a special time in your life, and my hope is that you are able to remember it fondly.

I believe that the woman’s body knows what to do, and I trust the natural process of childbirth. What matters the most however, are YOUR choices. What is important to YOU? What do YOU want out of your birth experience? Birth doulas attend all types of births including births with an epidural, planned cesarean, natural births, and everything in between.

What is a Doula?

At its core, a Doula is trained to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to women and their families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

As a birth doula I DO:

  • I provide emotional and physical support to a woman and her family during her labor and delivery.
  • I can also facilitate communication with the birth team to ensure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions regarding your baby’s birth.
  • I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for your comfort.

As a doula, I DO NOT:

  • I DO NOT: Perform clinical tasks. This includes taking you blood pressure, interpret fetal heart tones, perform vaginal exams, etc. I am there to only provide physical comfort, emotional support, and help communicate your preferences to you birth team/staff.
  • I DO NOT: Make decisions for you. I will help you get the information you need to make an informed decision, and will remind you of your birth plan, as well as your preferences, if there is a departure from your initial plan.
  • I DO NOT: Speak on your behalf. I will discuss your concerns with you, and give suggestions on how to voice your opinions to your birth team/ staff, and encourage you to do so.

Let’s talk about self-care

It’s time for SELF CARE! What is self care? Well it’s how you take care of yourself. This is important for everyday, but we think about it often while pregnant, because we are in turn taking care of the baby. Self care is often times the thing that goes to the way side first.
